I Have an Oil for That!

Hi there. So a while back as you may recall I posted a photo of a keychain my friend at Arrow it Forward had given me. It had the quote on it, “I’ve got an oil for that.” Well, now I do! I have created six essential oil blends including a stress relieving blend, an energy enhancing blend, a sleep enhancing blend, a positivity enhancing blend, a memory enhancing blend, and a headache relieving blend. All of my blends are diluted in a carrier oil. I use apricot kernel oil, which is an emollient, simply meaning it will soften and moisturize your skin. I created my blends by testing different essential oils with specific properties until I came up with a blend that not only has health benefits, but also smells delightful. Each blend consists of the recommended amount of essential oils diluted in 1 teaspoon (5 mL) of carrier oil (apricot kernel oil).

I made the stress blend first. Perhaps I was feeling stressed about all of the ideas I have and how to bring them to life. I needed something to help me overcome those feelings so that I could focus on making my dreams come true.

While learning and discovering which essential oils blend well together, I have definitely acquired some favorites. One that I am loving is Bergamot. Did you know that Bergamot is the main ingredient in flavouring Earl Grey tea? I did not know that until I started my research. I’m actually drinking an Earl Grey tea as I write this… total fluke, imagine that! It has a fresh citrus aroma with spicy floral undertones. Bergamot is a wonderful essential oil to use in aiding stress related issues.

Another one of my favourite essential oils is lavender. The oil is steam distilled from the flowering tops of the plant. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and it is known to treat such conditions as headaches and migraines, insomnia, and stress and anxiety related conditions. Lavender is a very safe and gentle essential oil so it is commonly used in blends for children and babies. (Obviously, precaution should still be taken when using essential oils on little ones).

I also use sweet orange in several of my products. It is extracted from the rind of the fruit. Some therapeutic uses include helping to treat anxiety, constipation, insomnia, depression, anxiety and stress related conditions. It blends well with many other oils so it is definitely a popular choice.

Peppermint is also high up on my list. I just love the smell of peppermint! It is very commonly used in blends to treat headaches and migraines as well as digestive problems.

Rosemary is my new favourite, which is a little bit strange because I do not like the taste of rosemary. It blends very well with other essential oils and I find it acts as a neutralizer to some of the stronger scented oils. Almost the whole plant can be used to steam distill the oil which is very resourceful. Rosemary is very therapeutic. It is historically known to enhance memory which is why it is one of the oils I included in my memory enhancing blend. Rosemary is commonly used to treat respiratory conditions and sinus congestion, as well as muscular aches and pains and arthritis. And it is a very useful oil to aid in the relief of headaches and migraines. Actually the list of therapeutic uses goes on and on. Rosemary is a pretty amazing plant!

After mixing up the oils and smelling them, the second most fun part was naming my blends. I had a little help and inspiration from my little girl. So the six blends that I have created are as follows:
